    Report by Mats Jönsson

    October 23

Today Linda Nilsson from Canada spoke at our service and spoke about Humility.

She started reading from Philippians 2: 3-15 .

Greek word for humility means ”lowness of mind”. Humility begins in our mind- humble behaviour is impossible without a humble mind
Consider others more important than yourself. Consider their importance since made in the image of God

Your attitude like Jesus = willingness to decrease, go down
Work out salvation = working out of principle that we must humbles ourselves to be exalted
Do not complain or argue = The spiritual man praises, the carnal man complains. We can never be right with God when complaining!
You may become pure and blameless = are not that way yet but we can become that way

James 4:10 Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up.

Only one that can humble you is YOU. If you don't do it, it won't happen
Watch out if you pray ”Lord, make me humble.”!
(He will indeed arrange circumstances that will cause you to be humbled!)
Humility is not an emotion, it is a decision of will that must be worked out in action

1 Peter 5:5 Clothe yourselves with humility. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

If you want grace- humble yourself. Pride never gets close to the throne of God.
Clothe with humility = put on an apron of slavery, let it be apparent that you are a servant
    Humility always leads to obedience
God actively combats/strides against pride. Is God opposing you because of pride?

John 3:30 He must become greater, I must become less.
We must apply this principle not only in relationship with God but with other people.

Phil 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit
Eph 5: 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Proof of our submission to God is our attitude and relationship to other people.

How do we grow in humility?

Thank God often- thankfulness helps keep pride at  bay
    Confess sins willingly and regularly
    Be ready to accept humiliations
Do not be concerned with status
Have a sense of humour- laugh at self!
